Chandrababu Naidu to stay with NDA, likely to seek Speaker's post: Sources

A day after the Telugu Desam Party's (TDP) impressive performance in Andhra Pradesh in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, as well as the Assembly elections, party chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday reaffirmed his decision to "firmly stay" with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Sources told India Today TV that Naidu is likely to put forth his demand for the Speaker's post during the high-profile NDA meeting in Delhi today. They added that no one from the Opposition INDIA bloc has spoken to Naidu yet, though some feelers may have been sent to the TDP chief. Ahead of leaving for the national capital, Chandrababu Naidu held a press conference in Vijayawada, in which he told reporters, "I am experienced and I have seen several political changes in this country. We are in the NDA, I’m going to the NDA meeting in Delhi." "After the completion of the election, this is my first press meeting before going to Delhi. I am very glad for the support of the ...

Lok Sabha Elections Results 2024: Narendra Modi fails to equal THIS Nehru record as he gets ready for third term as PM | Mint

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won a third consecutive term after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 293 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Modi will be the second prime minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to come to power in India for three straight terms. Modi, however, failed to equal Nehru in another aspect of elections. Nehru had won an outright majority in his third election held in 1962. Modi's BJP won 240 seats, 32 short of the majority mark of 272 seats, in the general election 2024, the result of which was announced on Wednesday, June 4. Since the BJP has stopped short of the magic number, PM Modi will be leading a minority government with the support of its allies that takes the NDA tally to 293 seats. Jawaharlal Nehru served as prime minister of India for a period of 16 years and 286 days from 1947 until 1964. Nehru was elected prime minister after the Congress party won the first general elections in 1951-52 and...

Uttar Pradesh Election Results 2024: U.P.’s western region proved to be the wind vane of the State

The BJP was aware of the change in the political climate. That is why it got on board Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) to reduce the losses in the region affected by farmers’ agitation and protests against the treatment meted out to the women wrestlers. Despite the RLD’s muscle and the BSP staying out of the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, out of the 26 seats, the NDA has won only 13 seats. In 2019, its tally was 18. In the first round, the INDIA bloc won six of the eight seats. The BJP secured only the Pilibhit seat, while Nagina went to Chandra Shekhar Azad of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram). In 2019, the Opposition a...

Tale Of 2 Pics: Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav Sit Together On Delhi Flight

With the 2024 Lok Sabha polls denying an absolute majority to BJP, NDA and INDIA partners will be holding key meetings today. Sources have, meanwhile, told NDTV that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to take the oath of office for his third term on Saturday.  The BJP-led NDA bagged 294 seats in the 543-member Parliament -- 22 more than the magic figure of 272. The INDIA Opposition bloc finished with 234 -- 38 less than the majority mark. Two NDA allies, TDP's Chandrababu Naidu and JDU's Nitish Kumar, hold the key to the doors to power. While the two contested the general election in an alliance with the BJP, INDIA leaders are learnt to have reached out to coalition-era veterans to woo them into the Opposition bloc. As the numbers stack up, INDIA needs the support of both JDU and TDP, and a bunch of unaligned MPs, to clinch a majority.  The day after the results, leaders of both NDA and INDIA alliances are flying to Delhi to hold discussions on the way forwar...
